Protest against police

PESHAWAR - Journalists hailing from Charsadda on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against local police for allegedly registering fake cases against media persons. Scores of journalists led by Gandhara Union of Journalists President Sabz Ali Tareen, Shaheen Union of Journalists (SUJ) President Nusrat Hussain and Charsadda Electronics Association President Zahidullah, while holding placards and banners, chanted slogans on Saddr Road against police officials for registering falls cases against journalists.
Taking to media persons, leaders of the protestors alleged that local police were creating hurdles in the way of journalists to work.
They alleged the police personnel having links with criminals and drug and land mafias couldn't tolerate media reports against their corruption.
They informed the police officials several times treated journalists badly while several others were detained for no reason. On the instructions of their corrupt officers, local police registered fake cases against media persons to stop them from writing truth against them, they said.
They appealed to chief justice Peshawar High Court to take notice of the alleged gang of the police officials, which involved in torturing and manhandling of journalists aimed to stop them from their work.
They also warned to hold a sit-in in front of the Islamabad Press Club and Parliament House if government failed to take action against the police.
