LAHORE - Following the Anarkali blast, the Punjab government is on the guard to ensure peace during the month of Ramazan.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday presided over a high-level meeting to review law and order situation in the province as well as the investigation into Anarkali Food Street incident.

As to Anarkali terror act, the chief minister is not satisfied with performance of police and strictly wants the department to deliver results after so huge spending made on the law enforcers. For Ramazan, the chief minister directed the police to remain fully alert about security of the masses and ensure foolproof arrangements in this regard during Ramazan-ul Mubarak. The CM has sought special security arrangements at Ramazan bazaars as well as during Nimaz-e-Taraveeh and Fajr prayers. The CM has directed the law enforcement agencies to be vigilant during Ramazan to meet any eventuality.

Addressing the meeting, the CM asked authorities to strictly implement Shops and Security Ordinance, undertake special checking of hotels and inns and directing the police officers to ensure effective patrolling in their respective areas. He said a vigorous media campaign should be launched for promoting awareness in the people about maintaining a watchful eye on their surroundings and suspects, besides evolving a plan for this purpose.

Reviewing the pace of investigation into the tragic incident at Anarkali Food Street, the CM said necessary resources will be provided to police but it must deliver results. He directed the law enforcement agencies to apprehend culprits behind Anarkali blast as early as possible.

The CM said that dream of economic progress cannot be realized without maintaining peace in the society.

He said Pakistan is passing through a critical phase and facing the scourge of terrorism. However, he said, living nations counter all challenges with courage and determination and the same spirit will have to be adopted to put the country on the road to progress and development. He said no effort will be spared for protection of life and property of the citizens and law enforcement agencies will have to perform their responsibilities with efficiency. He said nothing can be more important than law and order and the menace of terrorism will have to be rooted out for progress and development of the country. He said nation will foil the designs of terrorist elements with the force of unity.

Chief Secretary and Home Secretary gave a detailed briefing regarding overall security situation in the province while CCPO Lahore informed about the pace of investigation into Anarkali Food Street incident.
