Condolences pour in for Edhi

Islamabad - Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of great servant of humanity, legendary social worker, noble soul, saviour of destitute and true asset of Pakistan, Abdul Sattar Edhi.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that we have lost the prodigious human but his legacy of serving humanity will never be ended. “Edhi’s contribution to social welfare is irreplaceable. His efforts will always be remembered,” he added.

The Speaker, offering his condolences to the bereaved family, said, “I offer my deepest condolences to the proud family of Abdul Sattar Edhi and pray that Almighty Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace.”

Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi also expressed his condolences and eulogized services of late Edhi for humanity.

Meanwhile, Director General Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122, Brig (R) Dr. Arshad Zia paid rich tribute to legendary social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi.

In a statement issued here yesterday, he said it is a great loss not only for nation rather for whole humanity. Rescue 1122 was always facilitated by Edhi Ambulance/Mortuary Services during Emergencies and Disasters. He added that they will continue his mission by continuing timely emergency care to hapless victims of accidents and calamities.

He further said greatest philanthropist/Social Worker Abdul Sattar Edhi shall always alive in our hearts due to his selfless services in humanitarian sector.

The DG Rescue 1122 prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to members of the grieved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.

Meanwhile, the Hindu community in the country yesterday pledged to follow the footsteps of legendary social worker late Abdul Sattar Edhi to serve humanity.

Pakistan Hindu Council patron-in-chief and Member of National Assembly, Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani expressed grief on the sad demise of renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi and said the Hindu community would pay him homage and respect as well as follow his footsteps to serve the humanity.

In a condolence message, Dr Ramesh paid rich tribute to the great services of late Edhi, saying that Edhi had always actively participated in the annual mass wedding ceremonies organized by Pakistan Hindu Council in the honour of poor Hindu couples.

“Recently, a Pakistan Hindu Council delegation had also visited him to enquire about his health,” he said. He appealed that Hindu community may carry out special prayers for the pardon of the departed soul.

Meanwhile, Patron in-chief of Pakistan Sweet Home, Zamarud Khan expressing his profound grief over the death of social activist Abdul Sattar Edhi termed his death as a national casualty.

He said that he met Edhi on several occasions and always found him devoted towards serving humanity. The deceased dedicated his whole life to work for the welfare of poor hence there will be no alternate to fill the gap he has left, he added.   

Talking to media persons before leaving for Karachi on Saturday, he said that the entire world has shown immense confidence in Edhi Foundation. “To me Abdul Sattar Edhi was like a teacher and my role model. I was always influenced by his simple way of living including his simple diet and clothing. He was very attached to the orphans of sweet homes and had a special love for them.” He also vowed to do all in his possession to continue the work of Abdul Sattar Edhi. 

Zamurrad Khan further said that Pakistan is going through a lot of crises but it’s essential that we as a nation take part to persist the work of late Abdul Sattar Edhi.

In this regard special sessions will be held at Pakistan Sweet Homes to highlight the life of Abdul Sattar Edhi to give guidance to the orphan children. He also announced to rename the branch of Pakistan Sweet Homes situated in Karachi after Abdul Sattar Edhi.
