Expat family robbed on return

rawalpindi - A gang of robbers looted an expatriate family coming from UK at Chowk Pindori within the limits of police station Kallar Syedan, informed sources yesterday.

The looting incident took place near Police checkpoint Pindori whereas Punjab Highway Patrol squad was standing a few yards from the vehicle being looted by robbers but no cop responded to thwart the robbery, sources said. Amjad, the head of victim family approached local police for legal action against the looters who fled the crime scene in a car. Police registered a case and started investigation, sources added.

According to sources, Amjad, a resident of Dhudhial area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), lodged a complaint with police that he was going to his hometown in a van with his family and relatives after arriving from UK at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport when a gang of three men riding a car intercepted their vehicle at Chowk Pindori.

“The robbers pointed their guns at us and asked to give them all valuables. Later, the robbers snatched 35 tolas of gold ornaments, 5,000 UK pounds, travelling documents and other valuables and fled, he mentioned.

Station House Officer of Police Station Kallar Syedan, Sub-Inspector (SI) Khizar Hayyat, when contacted, confirmed the incident. He said that the incident occurred near Pindori police checkpoint while a patrolling van of PHP was also parked a few yards away from the crime scene but no cop tried to catch the robbers.

“It was suggested during initial investigation that all the squad of PHP was absent from duty and only a driver was sitting in the mobile van,” the SHO said. Gangs of unidentified robbers impersonating officials of intelligence agencies have been active in Saddar and Potohar divisions since long and targeting the passengers coming in Pakistan from foreign countries without any action on part of police or law enforcement agencies.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Division Dr Sardar Ghais Gul could not be contacted for his official version over looting spree in his area.
