Rawalpindi - The funeral prayer in absentia for Abdul Sattar Edhi was held here at Liaquat Bagh yesterday.

The prayer was led by former minister of AJK and candidate for Valley-5 constituency, Hafiz Ahmed Raza Qadri. A large number of people offered the prayer.

The funeral prayer was arranged by Advocate Asad Abbasi who heads the human rights committee of Punjab Bar Council in Rawalpindi while AJK Law Minister Azhar Gillani, ex-MNA Malik Shakil Awan, Chairman UC # 44 Sajjad Khan and others attended the ceremony. Talking to media persons after the prayer, Advocate Asad Abbasi said that they want to highlight the services rendered by Abdul Sattar Edhi for the poor in Pakistan. He said that lawyers want to salute the social worker and philanthropist.

Malik Shakeel Awan on the occasion said that Edhi has set a precedent for others to follow. He said that Edhi would be remembered forever for his social and charity work. He said that the political leaders also need to follow the suit and pay attention on social work.

Police were present outside the historic Liaquat Bagh to provide security to people who participated in the prayer.

Meanwhile, President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Mian Humayun Parvez has expressed his grief on the death of social activist Abdul Sattar Edhi.

In his condolence message he said that the business community of Rawalpindi appreciated his philanthropic and social work related to humanity. “His efforts will always be remembered,” he said.
