SIALKOT-The project of establishing a model cattle market in Sialkot has been lying in doldrums due to paucity of funds for the last two years.

The district administration seems unable to establish the market as the government did not allocate even a single penny for the project despite the passage of two consecutive years of announcing the project.

The local cattle traders told this correspondent that the Punjab government had announced to establish a model cattle market in Sialkot on July 1st, 2014 by abolishing the old contract system of the cattle markets. The government also had formed a governing body and two active committees to supervise the project. They regretted that no boundary wall, shades, water supply system, sewerage system, lights, hotel, canteen, toilets and security have yet been established for the cattle market despite the passage of two consecutive years as the government did not allocate funds for the project.

Cattle traders demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Gujranwala Commissioner Capt (r) Muhammad Asif and Sialkot DCO Dr Asif Tufail to ensure the early establishment of the model cattle market in Sialkot.
