Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar has said that he would not have gone to the airport to welcome former prime minister Nawaz Sharif even if he was still a part of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

While addressing the media in Taxila on Tuesday, Nisar said, “Even if I was a party member, I would not have gone to welcome Nawaz.” Further, the former interior minister urged that the upcoming general election should not be made controversial.

Nisar called for a government that focuses on issues of the people. “No one is getting a certificate for corruption or honesty,” he said in an indirect reference to his political rivals.

After a fall out with PML-N, Nisar decided to contest as an independent candidate from NA-59, NA-63, PP-10 and PP-12 constituencies. He also revealed that he chose the symbol of jeep for his election campaign.

Nisar said, “When the jeep symbol was chosen, wrong speculations were being made, but I personally chose the symbol out of three options.” The former PML-N leader clarified that he was not associated with any 'jeep group.'
