ISLAMABAD- Doctors have suggested to the people to avoid spicy and high protein food in hot summer season to remain fresh and healthy.
When dealing with the exhausting heat and humidity of any heat wave, it was important that people used every available defence to stay as cool as possible, Dr Asif Tausef, a health specialist said.
On days like these when it is hot enough to grill on the sidewalk, it is best to reduce your protein consumption. Not eliminate it all together, but cut back because protein is really hard to digest, Dr Asif said.
It takes a lot of different molecules and enzymes to transform a piece of meat into something the body can use, he added.
He said when your body performs this process, it creates heat - a process known as thermogenesis. Other foods, such as carbohydrates in the form of fruit or bread, are more easily digested, use much less energy and produce a lot less heat by thermogenesis.
FREQUENT HEARTBURN MAY PREDICT CANCERS
Frequent heartburn was positively associated with cancers of the throat and vocal cord among nonsmokers and nondrinkers, and the use of antacids, but not prescription medications, had a protective effect, according to data published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer.
Previous studies examining gastric reflux and cancers of the head and neck have generated mixed results," said Scott M. Langevin, Ph.D., postdoctoral research fellow at Brown University in Providence, R.I. "Most of those studies had either few numbers of cases or they were not adjusted for confounding factors.
Ours is a large, population-based study with robust parameters that strongly suggests gastric reflux, which causes frequent heartburn, is an independent risk factor for cancers of the pharynx (throat) and larynx (vocal cord)."
Langevin and his colleagues found that all the participants who were neither heavy smokers nor heavy drinkers, a history of frequent heartburn was linked to a 78 percent increased risk for cancers of the throat and vocal cord.
They also found that among those who had frequent heartburn, taking antacids, but not prescription medications or home remedies, had a protective effect, with a 41 per cent reduced risk for cancers of the throat and vocal cord.
The protective effect of antacids was consistent, irrespective of the participants' smoking or drinking status, HPV 16 status or tumor site.
RABIES MOST LETHAL DISEASE
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha has said that rabies is one of the most lethal zoonotic or animal-transmitted diseases, killing more people each year than H5N1 and dengue fever.
He said that university was making outstanding efforts to ensure the quality of food. He said that to ensure the quality of milk it had developed milk adulteration kit and having feed analysis facilities in this regard.
Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha urged the veterinarian, medical doctors, scientists and researcher to join hand and launch concrete efforts to eliminate rabies.
He said this at a workshop on "Awareness and field Test for Diagnosis of Rabies" organized by UVAS department of Epidemiology and Public Health.
Chairman department of epidemiology and public health Professor Dr Muhammad Athar Khan said 95 percent of rabies cases were caused by infected dogs bite inPakistan.
These cases are preventable through proper vaccination of pet and feral dogs, he added.
