Three cops held for ‘involvement’ in Wassan's escape

KHAIRPUR - Three police officers including CIA in-charge and investigation officer were arrested for their alleged involvement in the escape of MNA Nawab Khan Wassan, here on Sunday.
It should be mentioned that newly-elected Pakistan People's Party Member National Assembly Nawab Khan Wassan escaped from the court after Anti-Terrorism Court in Khairpur cancelled his interim bail in a murder case on Saturday.
Wassan appeared before the ATC for confirmation of his interim bail, which he had got from the Sindh High Court Karachi 16 days back. But the judge of ATC Khairpur Syed Saeed Hassan rejected his bail application and directed police to arrest him.
After rejection of bail application, the people present there, said to be PPP activists, attacked the courtroom and damaged the furniture. They also attacked cops including ASP Masood Bangash.
During the violence, PPP MNA managed to escape despite presence of a huge contingent of police. The people alleged that police were involved in the escape of Nawab Wassan.
The court issued arrest warrants against Nawab Wassan and directed police to lodge the case against attackers on court under the law.
It may be recalled that a PML-F worker Abdul Wahab Morejo was killed on the spot while six workers including former Taluka Nazim Khairpur Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto, Amir Morejo, Mashooq Ali, Mudasir Mughal, Fida Hussain and others were hurt at Mumtaz College polling station in the firing during the May 11 electoral process. The murder case was registered against Nawab Khan Wassan.
After the escape of MNA Nawab Khan Wassan, scores of PML-F activists under the leadership of former Taluka Nazim Khairpur Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto, Amir Morejo, Mashooq Ali and others strongly protested against the Khairpur police.
