LAHORE - The tennis summer camp 2015 being organised by Bahuddin Zakariya University (BZU) commenced Tuesday here at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Punjab Lawn Tennis Academy (PLTA). “This camp is being conducted by national coaches and supervised by me. The PLTA is also holding a JTI (Junior Tennis Initiative) camp after the BZU-endorsed summer camp and after that, we will hold a junior ranking championship from June 13 to 17,” said PLTA secretary Rashid Malik, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz holder, while speaking at the press briefing. PLTA president Mian Munir, PTF SVP Col (R) Asif Dar, ex-hockey player Nasim Qureshi, Javeria and Umar of BZU and a lot of young tennis players and their families were present on the occasion. “This is a big initiative taken by the PLTA which will bear fruit in years to come. For the last two years, no summer camps were organised, but we have revived them with the aim of working at grassroots level and get quality players who will represent the country at national and international level,” he added. “After Zimbabwe team’s visit to Pakistan, now it’s easy for PTF to convince the ITF to allocate us Davis Cup tie and other ITF events which will help in promoting tennis in the country,” Rashid concluded.
