Rawalpindi - A police officer tortured a supplier of Sihala Slaughterhouse mercilessly during detention in Police Station Waris Khan while accusing him (labourer) of supplying unhygienic meat in the city, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation here on Tuesday.

The police officer also made the poor parents of the labourer to listen to his hue and cry on cellphone during torture and asked them to bring Rs 25000 for safe release of their son, sources said. The labourer was released by police officer after taking bribe, sources added.

The victim lodged a complaint with City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi who while taking notice ordered Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Behram Khan to hold inquiry into the matter, the sources added.

According to sources, a police patrolling team of police station Waris Khan, headed by Sub Inspector (SI) Manzoor Ahmed, was on routine patrolling when they stopped a vehicle carrying meat stamped by Sihala Slaughterhouse. During checking, SI Manzoor arrested Imran, a labourer, charging him of supplying unhygienic meat, sources said and added that the labourer along with vehicle was taken to police station where SI Manzoor subjected Imran to severe torture; made his parents to listen his cries on cellphone and asked them to pay him Rs 25000 if they wanted to obtain his release.

Sources said that SI did not spare Imran even after assurance of Sihala Slaughterhouse general manager that meat was not unfit for human consumption.

“SI Manzoor released Imran after taking Rs 25,000 from him,” sources said.

CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, however, when contacted for his point of view, confirmed that a citizen Arslan appeared before him and stated that SI Manzoor arrested his employee Imran and tortured him without any reason. He also alleged that SI took Rs 25,000 bribe from him for setting him free.

SI Manzoor, during chat with The Nation, rebuffed the allegations levelled against him by Imran. “Neither did I torture anybody nor did I receive bribe. I am ready to face the CPO and ASP if they call me for inquiry,” he said.
