The construction of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, and installation of machinery will complete till 15th at a cost of Rs200 million, a meeting was told.

Apart from the projects of Thalassaemia ward worth Rs120 million and cardiac ward with 4 additional operation theatres are in the finals phases of completion, an official said.

Bahawalpur Commissioner Saqib Zafar expressed these thoughts while addressing a meeting. In the meeting, Health Department’s developmental projects were reviewed.

It was told in the meeting that during the current year the Punjab government had released Rs1.6 billion funds for the health projects, which include the up gradation of tehsil headquarters hospital of Fort Abbas, Chishtian, Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Hasilpur and Ahmadpur East.

It was further told that at the end of the current fiscal year more than Rs660 million had been spent on the development projects. For the establishment of Medical College in Bahawalpur funds of Rs300 million have been approved while tenders for the project had been invited.

The vacant posts of doctors and their attendance were reviewed. Throughout the division, all necessary medicines are present in excess quantity and there is no shortage of medicines, it was told. The commissioner said the provision of healthcare was the first priority of the government.
