GILGIT - The joint opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on Saturday decided to challenge Government of GB Order-2018 in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

It was decided in a meeting of the joint opposition in GB Assembly chaired by opposition leader Captain (R) Muhammad Shafi.

The meeting was attended by lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Raja Jahanzaib, Pakistan People’s Party Javaid Husain, MWM Bebi Saleema, Kacho Imtiaz, Nawaz Khan Naji and others.

The Government of GB Order 2018 is violation of the basic rights of the people of the region, the opposition members said.

In the meeting, the opposition lawmakers also decided to challenge the GB budget 2018-19 in Chief Court, Gilgit which has been approved by the GB Assembly.

During the budget session, the opposition lawmakers had torn out the budget copies and had chanted slogan against the government throughout the budget speech.

Taking to The Nation, member GB Assembly Javaid Hussain said that former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had misguided the people of GB during his speech to the GB Assembly. He said that PPP member had filed objection to reject the nomination papers of former premier Shahid Kaqan Abbasi’s before the returning officer.

He added that the former premier had claimed that the name of the Chief Court, GB had been changed to High Court of GB, adding that the court would consist of seven judges while in the government order 2018 published in gazette of Pakistan, the name of chief court and numbers of judges remain the same.

After the baseless and fake speech of former prime minister in GB Assembly, he was liable to be held accountable on the basis of articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan, he said.
