ISLAMABAD - During hearing of Sharif family’s appeals against their conviction in corruption cases, NAB Prosecutor Wednesday emphasized on dismissal of the pleas of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif pending before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in corruption cases.
A division bench of IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani conducted hearing of the appeals filed by the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar Awan as well as the NAB’s appeals against them in the Avenfield property, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment references. During the hearing, PML-N leader Azam Nazir Tarar as amicus curiae stated before the bench that the court had to look at all parties in the same way. He said that there was no denying that the decisions in different cases had impacts on others.
Justice Aamer said that it was necessary to determine whether the court could hear the case on its merits. Tarar adopted that the case could be heard by the court if the documents were available. He added that according to the spirit of the Constitution and the law, the court could take a decision that opens a clear window.
Justice Farooq remarked that the NAB had now requested to dismiss the appeals of the accused but the same were already had been accepted for hearing. He asked that what to do if the appellants were no longer available to the bench.
