A main drinking water line that passes through Sylvan Park, I-8/3, Islamabad is damaged and water continuously leaks from a manhole located at the northwest end of the park. The workers of CDA employed for maintenance of the park have dug a small kucha drain around the manhole and diverted the flow of water to the northern service road called Sahibzada Abdul Qayum Road. It is feared that incessant seepage and leakage of water from this damaged line may result in wastage of drinking water, which is already in short supply in this area. Moreover, there is likelihood of water in the pipeline getting polluted. It might become unfit for human consumption. If supply of this contaminated water to the citizen is allowed, it will enhance the risk of outbreak of many waterborne diseases. The Chairman CDA is requested to issue immediate orders to the concerned directorate to repair this broken line. -RAJA SHAFAATULLAH, Islamabad, via e-mail, February 24.
