LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has directed foolproof security arrangements should be made for by-polls in the province and law and order should be ensured at any cost so that people could exercise their right of franchise in a peaceful atmosphere. He gave these directions while presiding over a high-level meeting regarding law and order at Chief Ministers Secretariat here on Tuesday. The meeting also reviewed in detail various aspects of the incident of terrorism in Model Town. Col (r) Shuja Khanzada, Advisor Jehanzeb Burki, Inspector General Police, Home Secretary and other senior officers were also present. The chief minister said a peaceful atmosphere should be ensured for by-elections in Lahore, Bahawalnagar and Jhang and Elite Force should also be deployed for this purpose. He said security measures should be intensified for curbing the incidents of terrorism and in addition to monitoring of security arrangements, while intelligence system should also be improved. He said the families of the victims of Model Town incident would be given assistance in accordance with the policy of Punjab government. IG Police and Home Secretary while giving briefing regarding the bomb blast in Model Town, informed the CM the joint committee probing the incident was investigating the matter from different aspects. The meeting was informed that two special survey teams had been constituted to assess the losses to property and would soon complete their task.
