ISLAMABAD Military topnotch, which met with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in the chair on Tuesday, deliberated host of issues including operational preparedness of Pakistan Army. According to ISPR, the 127th Corps Commanders Conference held at General Headquarters was a part of regular monthly meetings that comprehensively reviewed various professional matters of the Army. It said that the participants showed their satisfaction over the state of operational preparedness of the Army. It further said that Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani expressed satisfaction over the performance of Army in the ongoing operations. He also lauded the professional competence demonstrated by field formations during recently held field/firing exercises. He reiterated the need to achieve professional excellence to respond to future challenges in a befitting manner. However, military sources privy to the conference informed that the meeting also discussed the security situation in the country as well as on the borders. They told that commanders reviewed the military operation Rah-e-Nijat and gave approval for the plans envisaging rehabilitation and reconstruction in the recovered areas of South Waziristan Agency. The meeting also took stock of the growing incidents of unprovoked firing by the Indian troops on LoC and termed it a gross violation of the cease-fire agreement between the two countries. According to the informed sources, General Kayani also took the commanders into confidence over his recent meetings with the ISAF commanders as well Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul on March 6. The sources informed that Gen Kayani shared his insight with the commanders about the ISAF operations in Afghanistan and Afghan governments initiation for reintegration of Taliban.
