KARACHI (INP) - Muttahida Qaumi Movements Dr Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri on Wednesday said that President Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has assured them that their reservations would be addressed within a week. On Tuesday, President Zardari had assured the MQM that all its grievances about the situation in Sindh will be removed and that the ruling party will not support 'criminal elements, Farooq Sattar told media persons here on Wednesday. The president had held out the assurance to a four-member MQM delegation, headed by Sattar, during a three-hour meeting called to discuss the situation in Karachi, with particular reference to a recent statement by Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza about Peoples Amn Committee that created tension between the coalition partners. Sattar said President Zardari was likely to convene a meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party leaders within a week where he is likely to decide how to resolve the tensions between the MQM and the Pakistan Peoples Party. Furthermore, Ghauri said Rehman Malik would be delivering a special message from President Zardari to the MQM chief in London. The MQM leaders said they were hopeful that the assurances given by President Zardari would be implemented. They said their party would continue to boycott the Sindh Assembly session until their reservations are properly addressed. Meanwhile, on the directives of the president, Interior Minister Rehman Malik left for London on Wednesday for meeting with MQM chief Altaf Hussain and to persuade the estranged partner to return to the Sindh Assembly session. After talks with Altaf Hussain, Rehman Malik would return to Karachi and meet the MQM members. However, it isnt clear yet whether Home Minister Mirza would be removed as part of pacifying the MQM. The last time the two parties entered a similar situation in similar circumstances, Mirza stayed.
