SWABI - Two bombs exploded in a girls’ college in tehsil Topi and damaged its building, as some unidentified miscreants planted bombs in the college, sources said on Friday.
They said the incident caused no casualty, however it created panic among the students and teachers of the college. Police said unidentified militants targeted the Frontier Education Foundation, Girls Degree College, Topi at night and the bombs exploded one after other at 3:30 am. The targeted institution is one of the two girls colleges in the region. The place where the explosions occurred is just three kilometers away from Tarbela Dam and about five kilometers away from Ghazi Barotha. Police and locals said it was the first ever incident of its nature in the tehsil. They said earlier such incidents frequently occurred in tehsil Razaar.
“It was a great shock for girl students to see their college damages on the arrival in the morning,” a student said, adding that, “the whole day was disturbing for us. Majority of us stayed away from classes.”
Sources said due to the presence of a watchman in the college, the militants had planted bombs to the outside walls of classrooms. They said soon after the incident police reached the college. The Topi city police registered FIR against unidentified militants and started investigation.
When contacted, DPO Abdul Rashid said earlier majority of educational institutions were in Razaar and Yar Hussain regions and they were targeted. He said the police tightened noose around the suspected militants there due to which they headed towards Topi. “We are working to further strengthen our security. Meetings have already been held with the officials of educational institutions and DCO in this connection,” he said.
