Lawyers observe Black Day against CJ’s 2007 ouster

FAISALABAD - Lawyers Friday observed Black Day against the 2007 ouster of Chief Justice of Pakistan by then president Pervez Musharraf.
On March 9, 2007, Pervez Musharraf deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry after his refusal to resign.
On the appeal of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), lawyers wore black ribbons and boycotted courts. Black flags were also hoisted at the office of District Bar Association. The DBA condemned the dictatorial actions of Musharraf against the judiciary.The lawyers reiterated their resolve to offer every sacrifice for the independence of judiciary.
On the other hand, several litigants suffered the most as they had no knowledge of the strike and came to the courts for their cases. Some of them said that though the lawyers strike in support of judiciary was a welcomed but what about the sufferings of poor litigants who had come from far-flung areas.
