KARACHI - Inhabitants of Gulshan-e-Jamal Friday staged a protest demonstration against the suspension of power and water supplies in the area for last 48 hours.
The protesters chanted slogans against the administrations of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) and Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC). They demanded the authorities concerned to restore the water and power supply on immediate basis. The enraged protesters blocked Rashid Minhas Road for over one hour by burning tyres there and created severe gridlocks from Rashid Minhas Road to Drig Road. Later, the protesters were peacefully dispersed after negotiations with the authorities. Meanwhile, another protest was staged in front of KW&SB by the members of Water Tankers’ Association. The protesters blocked Sharah-e-Faisal by parking tankers on it and demanded the water board management to eliminate the role of third party in water contracts.
They said the management should not only grant water contracts directly to them but also take stern measures to obliterate illegal water hydrants from the city.
The protest was called off after the assurance given by the management KWSB to address the said issues.
