SIALKOT - Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik has urged the nation to unite for uprooting terrorism and militancy from the country, saying that government's anti-terrorism measures including the 3D policy were producing results.

He was addressing the participants of inaugural ceremony passport office at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) along with Federal Minister for National Regulation and Services Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan here on Saturday.

MPA Tahir Mehmood Hundali, senior officials of FIA, NADRA and immigration departments were also present.

He said that the government had controlled terrorism to a great extent in Quetta and the situation was improving all over the country except Karachi. He said that the situation would become normal in Karachi soon as the government had taken effective and rapid measures to eliminate terrorism. 

Rehman Malik added that the PPP government had broken the backbone of TTP through an effective anti-terrorism strategy and now the country was moving towards the goal of durable peace, political and economical stability.

Later, talking to the newsmen at SCCI, Malik said that there was no doubt that the PPP government was taking effective measures to secure lives and property of people across the country and it was also the national obligation of all the powers in the state to come forward and play their role in elimination of terrorism and militancy.

The federal minister said the PPP was doing everything in the larger national interest and it would never compromise on it.

He said the energy crisis would be arrested and would make become self-sufficient in energy and also be able to export energy to other countries.

Earlier, Rehman Malik and Dr Firdous inaugurated two more regional passport offices in Sialkot district. One passport office has been established at village Jajjey Sahiyaan (the native village of Interior Minister Rehman Malik) on the outskirts of Sialkot. A regional passport office has also been established at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) to entertain the Sialkot business community as the Nadra office has also been established at SCCI for the business community.

The minister also announced establishment of special desks for females at Sialkot Regional Passport Office and at Nadra office with immediate effect besides ordering conversion of the Sialkot regional passport office into a model passport office within three days.

He also announced establishing separate passport offices at Daska and Pasrur to serve local people. Malik also announced Rs3 million in grant for early repair and renovation of 148 years old Iqbal Manzil (the birthplace of Allama Iqbal) at Sialkot. 

Taking serious notice of complaints of corruption of the officials at Sialkot regional passport office and highhandedness of agents there, he ordered reshuffling of all officials and staff of Sialkot regional passport office.

Rehman Malik ordered the Director General Passports and Immigration of Pakistan Wajid Bukhari to purge all passport offices of corruption and agents within three days.

He warned to arrest the DG if he did not meet the task. Rehman Malik also transferred Assistant Director FIA Gujranwala Munawar Ranjha due to his alleged poor performance.

Malik said that the PPP-led government was committed to resolving the issues confronted by the business community of Sialkot which was the hub of cottage industry.

He announced that foreign directors of joint ventures would be exempted from obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the government while foreign customers would be given entry visa at Sialkot international Airport on the recommendation letter of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The federal minister said that the upcoming general elections would be held on scheduled time and nobody would be allowed to sabotage the elections. He claimed that the PPP-government believed in democracy and democratic norms and committed to handing over the government to winners democratically.

He pointed out that the recent German survey had indicated the popularity graph of PPP in its recent survey and in the light of survey the PPP would form next government in the country.

Earlier, SCCI President Sheikh Abdul Majid presented welcome address and highlighted various issues.

THQ MS appointed after 2 years: According to notification of Health Department, Doctor Abdul Ghafoor Ghuman has been appointed as MS Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Pasrur.

He was previously working as Senior Medical Officer at Civil Hospital Daska.

The post of the MS at THQ Pasrur had been lying vacant for last two years.
