IAEA DG due today

ISLAMABAD - Yukiya Amano, director general (DG) International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), will arrive Pakistan today (Monday) on a three-day official visit.
During his stay, he will call on the president, prime minister, advisor to prime minister on foreign affairs and federal minister for science and technology, says a press release issued on Sunday. The DG IAEA will visit different PAEC centres and also hold talks with Chairman PAEC Dr Ansar Parvez to enhance Pak-IAEA collaboration.
As a founding member, Pakistan has a deep cooperation with IAEA in areas of nuclear power, industrial application of nuclear techniques, non-destructive testing, food and agriculture, soil improvement, radiation induced mutation, radiation oncology and nuclear medicines, environmental protection, and isotope hydrology. Pakistan has greatly benefited from various types of safety missions like operational safety reviews, assessment of safety events and probabilistic safety assessment.
On the other hand, Pakistan has also been able to make modest contributions towards the agency's activities by sharing experience and providing services of experts in several technical areas.
Amano is a career diplomat who joined as director general IAEA on December 1, 2009 and unanimously re-elected on this portfolio in September 2013. Before that, he was Japan's resident representative to the agency from 2005 and served as chair of the agency board of governors from September 2005 to 2006.
