islamabad - The capital district administration yesterday stopped three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from working over different reasons.

The crackdown was carried out on the instruction of interior minister. A team comprising Additional Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Abdul Sattar Esani, AC City Kamran Cheema and Director Labour Muhammad Ali visited the offices of different NGOs in the city. Three NGOs including Rozan, Tameer-e-Millat and Sahil were directed to stop working.

The sources said that Rozan was found having received funds from international NGOs; Tameer-e-Millat imported medical equipment without paying duty while there was no official present at the office of Sahil. The team also confiscated the record of the organisations for further investigation.

The team also sealed five medical laboratories over poor hygiene and using expired chemicals and employing non-qualified staff. The laboratories which were sealed include Nayab Lab, Islamabad Lab, Chughtai Lab and Federal Lab.
