Islamabad: Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has directed the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) director-general to redraft a standardized and a comprehensive FJA Employees Service Rules (ESR).

The chief justice, who is also chairman of the board of governors (BoG) FJA, issued the directives while chairing the 40th meeting of the BoG, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

“Our ego should not become obstacle to personal, professional, national development,” Justice Jamali said.

The chief justice said that more than two months have lapsed but the FJA ESR has not yet been framed. The FJA DG will redraft the rules while taking help and guidance from Supreme Court Registrar or s senior officials who have recently framed the rules of the Supreme Court. The establishment of Federal University of Law and Judicial Administration also came under discussion.

“Our top most priority should be to impart quality judicial training to the judicial officers. FJA should produce quality judicial officers.” A four member committee headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial and a representative of the Ministry of Law, the Higher Education Commission Chairman and FJA should be formed to explore various prospects of the ESR besides discussing other allied matters including the utilization of newly constructed building.

A three member-committee comprising Supreme Court Registrar, FJA DG and one nominee of the Finance Secretary was also formed to explore various avenues for proper investment of the funds of the Academy including the seed money meant for the erstwhile proposed varsity. Federal Minister for Law and Justice Pervez Rashid assured the meeting that the government will extend support to the Academy to provide quality legal and judicial education. Chief justices of all high courts and other also attended the meeting.
