NA body okays Rs4304.898m budget for 82 projects in capital

ISLAMABAD - National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat Wednesday approved a budget of Rs4304.898 million for 82 projects of health, education, and rural community development in capital.
The meeting held under the chair of Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan discussed budgetary proposals relating to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) for the financial year 2016-2017.
After deliberations, the members passed the amendment bill for special economic zones, 2015 without any amendment.
The Committee termed the establishment of Special Economic Zones, a step forward for encouraging industrialisation in the country. The lawmakers were informed that the purpose of amendment in Special Economic Zones Act, 2012 was to encourage and facilitate domestic and foreign investors to invest in manufacturing sectors of Pakistan offering them special exemption and incentives leading to reduce cost of doing business with efficient infrastructure.
The Plant Breeders Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Compulsory Blood Test for the Relatives of the Thalassaemia Patients Bill, 2015 was pended till next meeting.
The committee directed the Ministry of Law and CADD to revisit the disabled persons’ amendment bill for employment and rehabilitation, as the subject has been devolved to the provinces consequent to the 18th Constitutional Amendment. The matter of substandard construction at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science was also discussed in detail.
Committee directed secretary CADD to present the inquiry report to it on substandard construction work in the institute and to submit a report about the disciplinary proceedings against all held responsible.
