KARACHI (PR) - Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, chairman NAB, visited the NAB Karachi Bureau to review its performance, on Wednesday.

NAB Karachi Director General Colonel (r) Sirajul Naeem gave a detailed briefing to the chairman about the performance of the NAB Karachi during 2014 and 2015 and highlighted its achievements in eradication of corruption. He informed that on the directions of the chairman NAB, an inspection team conducted annual inspection on the basis of quantified grading system for the year 2015.

During the briefing, the DG NAB Karachi informed that NAB Karachi has disposed of 7,614 complaints during the year 2015. The number of complaints disposed of in 2015 was higher than the number of complaints of 2014 or any of the previous years. In 2015, NAB Karachi, out of 270 complaints verifications (CVs), completed 214 complaint verifications. NAB Karachi, out of 407, completed 353 inquiries whereas out of 240 investigations 128 investigations were completed on merit. During 2015, NAB Karachi has arrested 174 corrupt and filed 101 corruption references. During 2015, it has recovered Rs18.55 billion during one year which is a record achievement.

Mr Chaudhry said that NAB was the Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption and corrupt practices through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. It operates under the National Accountability Ordinance-1999 which is spread all over Pakistan including Fata and Gilgit Baltistan. NAB has its headquarters at Islamabad while it has eight regional bureaus located at Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Sukkur, Multan and Rawalpindi.

Mr Chaudhry said that NAB Karachi was one of the important regional bureaus of NAB. It played prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB, he said. “In view of the assessed annual performance for the year 2015 based on evaluation under the quantified grading system conducted by Chairman’s Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) graded the NAB Karachi’s performance as outstanding/excellent with 88 percent operational efficiency index which is highly appreciated.” He directed all the officers/officials of NAB Karachi to work hard to further improve their excellent performance. He further directed all ranks of officers/officials of NAB Karachi to work more honestly, vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country.
