ISLAMABAD - Minister of State/Chairman of Board of Investment, Dr Miftah Ismail on Tuesday met with Ambassador of Italy Stefano Pontecorvo to discuss Pakistan Trade and Investment Forum, which is going to be held in Rome, Italy in April 2016.

Italy is holding a seminar followed by B2B meeting in April in consultation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event, aimed at enhancing the economic cooperation between Pakistan and Italy, will also promote investment opportunities in Pakistan. Minister of State for BOI will lead the business delegation. Focus of the seminar would be on energy, infrastructure, automobiles, agro food, pharmaceuticals, marble/stones and textiles etc. Women entrepreneurs from Pakistan would be encouraged to participate at the forum.

Italy has close economic and political ties with Pakistan. The current trade between the two countries is around $300 million. FDI from Italy is around $200 million which needs to be enhanced. Ambassador of Italy said, “We plan to bring big companies of Italy to Pakistan. Four to five companies are already here and we are also hoping for a good joint venture with Pakistan Ordinance Factory.

Minister of State for BOI will meet Italian Minister for Economic Development, officials from government agencies, Italian leading companies, and Italian foreign trade agencies in Italy.
