ISLAMABAD - Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday informed that additional Rs288.3 million was spent on the construction of Ravi bridge without taking proper consent from competent authority.

PAC, under the chairmanship of Syed Khursheed Shah, reviewing the audit objections of communication ministry (2013-14) was informed that the tender was issued for the construction of bridge before PC-1.

Audit official was of the view that rules and regulations were violated in construction of the bridge as it was benefited contractor. The chairman PAC after hearing audit and NHA asked both to conduct a transparent inquiry as soon as possible about additional money of Rs288.3 million spent on it.

The committee was also informed that reconstruction of Islamabad-Lahore (M-2) with the cost of Rs36 billion would be completed soon.

Chairman NHA Shahid Ashraf giving the briefing to committee said that it was need to repair the M-2 Motorway after around a decade. It was also informed that a construction company also took benefit for road contracts.

It was informed that contract was awarded in violation of PPRA Rules. A PAC member also suggested blacklisting of the company because of its poor quality. The committee will again review this matter in upcoming meeting of PAC.
