LAHORE - Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has said that balance between population growth and resources is necessary to overcome the issues relating to mother and child.

He was addressing a seminar on Improving Family Planning Services with new approach and consolidated strategy organised by the Policy & Strategic Planning Unit (PSPU) of Health Department at a local hotel yesterday.

He said that population explosion created problems and there was need to work jointly for the economic growth of the country.

Minister Population Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Director PSPU Ali Bahadur Qazi, Dr Zahida Sarwar, officers of Health and Population Welfare departments, IRMNCH and representatives of UNFPA, USAID Deliver and NGOs attended the seminar.

The experts presented performance reports of District Technical Committees, provision of contraceptives, family planning services at grass root level. They also analyzed the acceptance and popularity of family planning programme in married couples.

They presented data collected during different studies. The participants discussed in detail family planning facilities at primary and secondary level health facilities and to extend its sphere to the teaching hospitals as well as to evolve strategy for its awareness among the masses.

Zakia Shahnawaz stressed the need for creating awareness and extending family planning facilities at the doorsteps of the people in towns and villages.

She said that education, health, clean drinking water and quality of life was the basic right of the children for which family planning and population program should be made a success. She said that all the concerned departments, NGOs and development partners have to evolve a consolidated strategy to implement a comprehensive program.
