LAHORE  - Dacoits shot dead a 35-year-old shopkeeper as he fought back during a robbery attempt in Shahdara.

Investigators identified the victim as Muhammad Asif. The man was present at his general store in the main bazaar when two motorcyclists appeared there late Tuesday night. The bandits held up the shopkeeper at gunpoint and demanded cash and valuables.

Asif tried to overpower one of the bandits when the other opened straight fire at him with a pistol. The shopkeeper sustained multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he expired later. However, the robbers fled on their two-wheeler after collecting cash and valuables from the shop. Police handed over body to the victim family after the autopsy. A murder case was registered with the Shahdara police against unidentified killers. No arrest was made so far.

The robbers’ raid on the merchant shop is said to be the 9th robbery incident reported this week in the limits of Shahdara police. Last month, the highest crime rate was witnessed in the jurisdiction of Shahdara police station. At least 10 to 20 crime incidents are being reported in this police stations everyday.
