KARACH - The cellular companies' subscriber addition rate has improved after dropping consistently since November 07. The overall subscribers grew by 2.8 per cent to 82.5m as against 2.0 per cent growth in February 08. According to the data released by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the net additions for March 08 were also 41.6 per cent higher than the previous month at 2.2mn subscribers. The higher additions also helped bolster the industry average, albeit marginally from 2.14 to 2.15mn subscribers for FY08YTD. Warid was the big winner for March 08 with 35.5% share of additional subscribers which propelled its market share to 17.4% from 16.9% the previous month. While Telenor, Mobilink and Ufone also managed to perform well, the latter two posted declines in their market share of 0.6% and 0.2% respectively. Telenor, however, improved by 0.3% in this regard. CMPak's and Instaphone's subscriber base remained relatively flat for the month. Cellular penetration stood at 52.2% by the end of March 08, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
