LAHORE - Former deputy speaker National Assembly Nawaz Muhammad Khokhar has moved a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking relief under the National Reconciliation Ordinance against punishment awarded by the NAB court in a corruption reference. Khokhar said that the NAB had filed a reference against him on 15 December 1996 under the charges of illegally transferring 150 kanal common land (Shamlat) in his name in village Loi Bher, Islamabad. After conclusion of the trail, the court in 2004 had awarded him three years imprisonment besides disqualifying him for ten years from holding a public office. Khokhar said that he challenged that order in LHC where his appeal was pending since 2004. He said that the NRO was introduced in the country last year, which said that all reference/cases pending before 12 October 1999 should stand terminated/withdrawn. Khokhar pointed out that his case also falls under purview of section 7 of the NRO, therefore his sentence might be set aside while accepting his pending appeal. His petition would be taken up on May 12(Monday). DPO directed to register case against SI The Lahore High Court Friday directed DPO Kasur to register a case against a sub-inspector who had illegally detained three citizens freed by the court. Petitioner Muhammad Alamghir said that his father, brother Jahangir along with his two employees Razzaq and Manzoor were travelling in a car when SHO Allahabad Kasur with the help of his subordinate intercepted them and took them to the police station. The police did not detain them but impounded car and legal weapons. He pointed out that the police released his father after three or four hours but demanded illegal gratification for the release of his brother and his employees. The court deputed a bailiff who raided police station and recovered three detenues from the custody of SI Akbar Javed. Bailiff also informed the court that no formal arrest of the detenues was shown in the prescribed register. After going through bailiff's report the court freed detenues and order DPO to register a case against SI on the complaint of aggrieved person.
