KARACHI - The ruling PPP taking shelter of minor technicalities in the formation of adjournment motion on the issue of target killings avoided to discuss the subject, which is of utmost important for the government and public in general, when the Sindh Assembly met here Monday for the first session of the current calendar year. When Syed Marvi Rashdi of PML-F rose to move an adjournment motion in which she wanted to highlight the target killings and other law and order related issues in the province, Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro jumped up and opposed the motion on the plea that the motion was general and fictitious and the mover was not clear. It was not specific, he said in support of his argument against the motion. Newly appointed Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon went one step ahead and declared that motion could not be discussed as the matter was sub judice. The motion certainly could have been sub judice if it contained names and cases which are before the court of law but there was no such thing and the information minister just put a hurdle in the path of the motion. Supporting his cabinet colleague, Senior Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq opposed the motion but at the same time he indirectly supported it when he spoke that killings were not restricted to Karachi alone but law and order in the same degree existed in Nawabshah, Shikarpur and Jacobabad etc where kidnapping for ransom was a routine matter, and suggested that the issue could be discussed at some other time in future.
