KESC has clarified in a section of the press that during the first 5 days of Lyari operation, 6 out of 43 PMTs were damaged but later on 2 were repaired whereas total registered customers in Lyari were 1,80,000. Nonetheless, they did not mention, the exact number of customers (registered and unregistered) affected during the Lyari operation for unknown reasons, perhaps leaving the people to guess. The KESC mentioned the first five days of operation but what about the rest of the three days of operation? More PMTs might have been damaged. If during the total 8 days of operation, roughly 9 PMTs were damaged, the number of registered customers who were affected would be 20,000. If we presume that average 10 people are living in one house of congested area, the number of affected people comes to two lakhs. If we add unregistered customers (like other part of Karachi) also, the total affected number of people would be 3,00,000. Since the operation was not launched in whole Lyari, claim of KESC that electricity of only 9 percent whole of Lyari was closed during first five days, was highly unjustified. Since, the operation started in a limited area in Lyari, KESC must have moral courage to tell us how many customers (registered as well as unregistered) suffered in the affected area in 8 days. In my opinion, 80 to 90 percent people remained without electricity in the affected area. Therefore, comparing with the whole Lyari is some sort of gimmick by KESC.
