karachi - MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has asked the caretaker government and Election Commission of Pakistan for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in the country. 

Talking to PPP leader Rehman Malik via telephone, he condemned the kidnapping former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son in Multan. He said it seemed the religious extremists have captured the country and there is no one who could stop them. He termed the kidnapping of Ali Haider Gilani as highly unfortunate incident. Malik on the occasion said the terror elements are pushing the liberal and democratic parties against the wall with an intention to force them quit the electoral process. He thanked the MQM leader for showing solidarity with the PPP and condemning the kidnapping incident.

Meanwhile, Altaf telephoned President Asif Zardari and condemned the incident. He said the caretaker government and security forces must ensure protection of the election candidates.

On this, President Zardari vowed that the terrorists would not be allowed to hijack the electoral process. He said he had asked the security forces for taking immediate action to ensure recovery of Ali Haider Gilani and adequate security to the election candidates.

Alta also telephoned to Yousuf Raza Gilani, condemning the kidnapping of his son.
