Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif paid visit to Balochistan in the backdrop of tragic incident in Turbet in which 20 labourers from Punjab and Sindh killed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Vowing to support the Balochistan government in eliminating terrorism, COAS warned foreign states and international agencies to refrain from destabilising the province. It is important to highlight that probably this is the first time that the military chief issued a public warning to foreign actors involved in destabilising the restive province. Ironically, a segment of media frenzy elements managed to find negativity in the visit and pointed finger on the role of military in law and order situation in Balochistan. The fact of the matter is that owning to its geo-strategic and geo-economic significance, US think tanks and CIA in collaboration with RAW and Mossad had been covertly debating and planning about the future of Balochistan for the last many years. The dissident elements in the province are acting on the behest of these foreign intelligence agencies.

The situation demands that political government having realised the gravity of the issue must devise a comprehensive strategy to undertake timely measures to bring lasting peace in the province as the Army, FC or intelligence agencies can never resolve this issue alone. These are the law enforcement agencies, they can only try to ensure stable security situation but responsibility of political stability in Balochistan lies with political elites. Pakistan is passing through a critical phase and is facing terrorism and other challenges, concerted efforts by the whole nation including media is needed to restore peace in the country rather than wasting energies on digging holes for security establishment for the sake of setting score against them.
