KARACHI - A homeopathic doctor was gunned down in Nazimabad locality here on Saturday.

According to police, the victim was targeted inside his clinic near Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Nazimabad.

Quoting the statements of witnesses, police told at least four armed men on two motorbikes were involved in the killing. Two of them stayed outside the clinic while the remaining two entered the clinic and shot him multiple times and escaped. Police said the victim was immediately shifted by his family members to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Police informed that victim Dr Anwar Ali Abidi, 52, was running his clinic namely Abidi Clinic within his house’s premises for the last eight years after the death of his father. Earlier, his father was running the same clinic for the last many years.

Police said the armed culprits used 9mm pistol for killing. Police also collected the empty shells of the bullets and initiated further investigation. SHO Tahir Ayub said the victim was shot twice in his head and neck. The officer said though the investigation was in preliminary level, however, the police suspect that the incident occurred over sectarian grounds.

Meanwhile, a policeman namely Ejaz Hussain, 40, was wounded in a firing incident at Clifton underpass within the jurisdictions of Boat Basin police station.

He was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Police said the incident occurred over offering resistance in a robbing bid.


Sindh Rangers on Saturday conducted raids in different areas of Karachi including PIB Colony, Surjani Town and Kanwari Colony area of Manghopir and arrested at least 12 miscreants.

According to the spokesman of the Rangers, the captured miscreants include target killers and the operatives of a proscribed organisation.

Rangers spokesman said firearms in heavy quantity and a snatched car were seized from the possession of the criminals. The interrogation is currently underway with the captured criminals.

It should be mentioned here that the paramilitary troopers arrested at least 14 miscreants including terrorists hailing from banned outfit and target killer during Thursday’s raids in different Karachi areas including Yousuf Goth and Gulshan-e-Ghazi.

A couple of days ago, Sindh Rangers announced to kick start the second phase of Karachi operation and expand its scope too. All the Rangers’ wings were directed in this connection. The spokesman of the paramilitary force said strict action will be taken against terrorists, target killers, extortion mafia operatives and abductors.
