KOLKATA- Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shahryar Khan was detained by immigration authorities in India yesterday. After the completion of series against Bangladesh, he was heading to Kolkata. According to Khan, he visited Dhaka to inspire his team after a disastrous tour.

Earlier, the PCB chief said his visit to Kolkata will restore cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. He flew in from Dhaka, which led to his detention because of travel rules for Pakistan nationals.

“Pakistan nationals can clear immigrations only at the Delhi, Amritsar and Mumbai airports. In case they want to enter India through any other airport, they need prior permission from the home ministry. Khan did not have the permission,” said an immigration official.

India and Pakistan have strict visa rules. Any violation of norms stated in the visas can result in visitors being turned back.
