Ali Haider Gilani, son of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has been recovered from Afghanistan after three years following a joint operation by US and Afghan forces.

Preparations are being made to return him to Pakistan following a medical check-up, a Foreign Office statement said, but offered no further detail.

"We are aware of the report," a spokesman for the NATO-led international coalition in Afghanistan told AFP without confirming it, adding that more details would be provided once they were "available for release".

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto has shared the news on social media. “Yousaf Raza Gillani has received phone call from Afghan authorities about the recovery of his son,” Bilawal tweeted.

According to reports, Yousaf Raza Gilani has contacted the Afghan Ambassador and thanked him for the successful operation.

Foreign Office of Pakistan has confirmed that Ali Raza has been recovered from Afghanistan. “The arrangements for bringing him back are underway,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said.

Furthermore Afghan Advisor of National Security has also confirmed the news.

While talking about to Waqt News Afghan Amabssador Hazrat Umer Zakhiwal said it was a combined US-Afghan operation. “Ali Haider will be handed over to Pakistan as soon as possible. He is in Kabul and is in good health, under full security,” he said.

According to reports, PPP workers are gathering at the residence of Yousaf Raza Gillani and have started the celebrations.
While talking to Waqt News, Abdul Qadir Gillani, brother of Ali Raza said, “We are happy about the news but we will not be fully satisfied until ISPR confirms it. After ISPR’s confirmation, we will be completely happy and satisfied.”

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has congratulated Yousaf Raza Gillani on his son’s recovery. “It is a great moment of joy and happiness,” the PM said.

Furthermore COAS Raheel Sharif has also called Yousaf Raza and sent his good wishes.

Ali Haider Gillani was kidnapped on May 9, 2013 when he was running the election campaign of his father in Multan. He was abducted under hail of fire from the outskirts of Multan when he was running his and his father’s election campaign.

Over the years contrasting stories regarding him were reported.

Last year he talked to his father Yousaf Raza Gillani over phone and confirmed that he is well and in good health.

There were already rumors that he was kidnapped by Taliban and being shifted to Afghanistan.

The abduction of Ali Raza was the second such kidnapping for PPP, after son of former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer’s, Shahbaz Taseer. Shahbaz

Taseer was recovered from Balochistan after a military operation on March 8 this year.
