Gen Bajwa listed on Forbes world's most powerful people

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwa has been named in the Forbes’ most powerful people list, Forbes reported

General Bajwa was ranked 68 among 75 people.

According to the magazine, "There are nearly 7.5 billion humans on planet Earth, but these 75 men and women make the world turn. Forbes' annual ranking of The World’s Most Powerful People identifies one person out of every 100 million whose actions mean the most."

General Qamar Javed Bajwa is the only Pakistani on the list and is among 17 newcomers to the list.

"Though Pakistan’s top general Qamar Javed Bajwa has a boss on paper (the prime minister appoints him), in reality it is a different story. Late last year he refused Prime Minister Abbasi’s order to send troops to deal with Islamist protesters in Islamabad, and he brokered a peace with the angry crowd that resulted in the resignation of the justice minister. Bajwa, the most powerful person in the nuclear-armed state, once served in Congo under the ex-chief of the Indian army, who praised his professionalism," Forbes said in its list of newcomers.

The magazine said, “Out of the 75 members, 17 are newcomers. Among them there are presidents, billionaires, heads of organisations, CEOs, and one special counsel. One commonality: Their words and actions impact a large number of people, businesses, and even entire economies.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping topped the list this year. Moreover, the annual survey by Forbes magazine showed US President Donald Trump drop-off to third place. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked number nine on the list.
