RAWALPINDI A vendor was killed when a speeding motorcycle hit him at Kutcheri Chowk here on Monday. The motorcyclist managed to escape from the scene. Two cars were lifted from the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Civil Lines and PS Ganjmandi, while robbers broke into the house of a citizen in Sadiqabad area and took away cash and gold ornaments. As per details, Muhammad Ahsan of Kutcheri area lodged a complaint with PS Civil Lines that his father Abdul Salam was selling calendars at Katchehri Chowk when a motorcyclist Syed Aun hit him (father) resulting in his fathers death. Police have registered a case against Syed Aun. Shehzad, resident of Gulshan-e-Zaheer, informed PS RA Bazaar that unidentified persons lifted his Corolla car (DGE-787), while Muhammad Zaid of Dhoke Darzian lodged a complaint with PS Ganjmandi that unknown vehicle-lifters had stolen his Honda CD-70 motorcycle (LL-144). Police registered cases against vehicle-lifters and started investigation. Muhammad Nazir, resident of Mohalla Faisalabad informed PS Sadiqabad that unknown muggers entered his house in his absence and took away Rs 10,000 in cash and jewellery. Police have registered a case and investigations were in progress. Traffic police have yet to take a number of steps to streamline traffic flow and to ensure road safety for the commuters. In the recent past, the police have taken a number of measures which not only prevented accidents on the roads but also compelled the road users to follow traffic rules strictly. Likewise, law and order situation in the city cannot be described ideal as there have been reports of various incidents of robbery and violence and the police needed to do a lot more in that direction.
