LAHORE Sialkot-born Zeeshan Javed struck two fascinating goals as WAPDA thrashed Army 5-1 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) at Railway Stadium, Garhi Shahue, Lahore. KPT failed to maintain unbeaten record at home and suffered 1-2 reverse at the hands of Navy at KPT - Benazir Sports Complex, Karachi while NBP and PAF players returned from Shadab Football Stadium, FB Area, Karachi with 1-1 scoreline. WAPDAs 5-1 win enabled the current national title holders to regain top slot with 42 points, putting aside KRL and Army who secured 41 points each. Meanwhile, Navys Monday win enabled them to reach 40 points. Arif Mehmood opened the scoring for WAPDA in the fifth minute when Armys keeper Jaffar Khan and other defenders lost focus after a lob ended up in scramble and Arif was on hand to smash the ball into left corner. Zeeshan made it 2-0 in the 44th minute when Jaffars unnecessary dribbling at the top of the area failed to rescue the soldiers. Zeeshan stole the ball from former Pakistani skipper and rocketed the ball into empty net. WAPDA led 2-0 at interval and Zeeshan made it 3-0 in the 49th minute after Arif and Imran Niazi had moved in concert. Zeeshan, born at the same city famous for great poet Allama Iqbals birth, created the fourth with through pass, finished by Imran Niazi in the 51st minute. Two minutes later, Army pulled one back when Muhammad Imrans 4-metre angular drive went past fingers of keeper Abdul Aziz. Arif completed the rout in the 89th minute after fine work by super-sub Khuda Bakhsh alias Bakhsoo. Two midfielder - Farhan Qadir and skipper Nomi Martin Gill - were heroes in Navys 2-1 win over KPT. The seamen were 1-0 up at interval through Farhans 30th minute goal and they added second in the 70th minute through international Nomi. KPT struck consolation goal through left full Akhtar Mamil in the 83rd minute when referee awarded them spot-kick. PAF earned precious point when they drew NBP 1-1. International stopper Yasir Sabir broke the deadlock as early as seventh minute. The bankers led 1-0 at interval but threw away the lead in the 58th minute when airmen did the job through two Afzals.
