2 die in blast near sect stronghold in Nigeria

An army official says suspected members of a radical Muslim sect have killed two civilians in a police station blast in Nigeria's restive northeast. Col. Hassan Mohammed blamed the group known as Boko Haram for bombing a police station Wednesday night in the town of Mainok, about 35 miles (60 kilometers) west of the sect's stronghold of Maiduguri. Boko Haram is also being blamed for bombings and gunfights last week that left more than 100 people dead in Damaturu, a town 80 miles (130 kilometers) west of Maiduguri. The group has been carrying out a campaign of attacks for more than a year. Boko Haram wants the strict implementation of Islamic Shariah law across the country's north.
