OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Like other parts of the country, the Eidul Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice or Greater Eid was celebrated here in provincial metropolis on Monday with religious zeal and fervour by sacrificing animals in the commemoration of Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). Security was beefed up with massive deployment of police across the City as hundreds of thousands of believers went to Masajids and Eidgahs to offer prayers. The Eid congregations were held at more than 600 places in the City. The biggest of them was held at the historic Badshahi Masjid. The Eid is an important religious day celebrated by Muslims across the world to commemorate the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (AS) as an act of obedience to Almighty Allah, before He (Allah) intervened to provide him with a ram to sacrifice instead. Eid congregations were held here in the City at all major Masajids with main congregations at Badshahi Masjid and Data Ganj Bakhsh Masjid. Scholars from different schools of thought delivered special sermons to highlight the significance of the day and the sublime objective of the sacrifice rendered by Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) centuries ago. Ulema also stressed for unity of Muslim Ummah.
