Girls school damaged in bomb blast

MARDAN - A govt girls school was damaged when explosives planted by unknown militants went off the other day, however no casualty was reported, police sources said on Wednesday. They said an explosive device planted by some unknown militants in a local girls school went off in tehsil Katlang area on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha on Monday late night. They said the militants had planted explosive device in the Government Girls High School in Dahri area of Ghndo police post in Tehsil Katlang and the explosion took place at midnight on Monday night, police sources informed. Three rooms of the school were totally destroyed while four rooms got partially damaged and boundary wall also fell down in the explosion. Officials informed that the school was recently upgraded, however high school classes had not been started yet. No casualty was reported in the incident, as it occurred at late night. Following the incident, the police launched search operation in the area but no arrest had yet been made. Police registered first information report against unknown militants. Sources further said that for the last few weeks militants have increased their activities in the district and targeted several girls and boys schools in Mardan rural areas including Chura, Jabbar and Katlong police station areas. In the ongoing month, the militants early in the morning planted a self-made explosive device under a bridge located in the limits of Par Hoti Police Station on November 2 in a busy bazaar Khuja Ganj. The bomb disposal squad came to the spot and defused it. In the past also, unknown militants had targeted this bridge. The militants the same day had planted self-made explosive devices in mobile phone companys tower at Bypass Road in the limits of city police station. The explosive devices were covered in plastic bag. Due to increase in terrorist activities in the district, especially in Mardan city, fear and panic is created in the masses.
