Kashmiri leader’s call

Renowned Kashmiri leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Geelani has called upon Pakistani leadership to continue supporting the cause of people of Indian-held Valley. Without mincing his words, he demanded that instead of diplomatic support, Pakistan should come forward with practical measures. It may be mentioned here that Mr Geelani had earlier expressed dismay over lukewarm response from Islamabad for the ongoing struggle of Kashmiri freedom fighters who were offering sacrifices to liberate their homeland from the clutches of the occupying forces. The Hurriyat leader was justified in saying that on the basis of its military might and recent support from the so-called champions of human rights, New Delhi has once again started trumpeting the rhetoric of Kashmir being its integral part in complete violation of the UN Security Council resolution. These resolutions called for UN-sponsored plebiscite in the Valley allowing its people to determine their own future. There is hardly any doubt that if lasting peace in the South Asian region is to be found it is linked with peaceful settlement of the decades-long dispute for which the two SAARC partners had fought three wars. So far, over a hundred thousand Kashmiris have been massacred during their struggle against Indian forces. The National Assembly’s Committee on Kashmir headed by JUI leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman must strongly censure the ongoing atrocities on all available forums.
