TOKYO - Japan's former world champion Daisuke Takahashi shrugged off jumping errors in the free skate Saturday to win his home Grand Prix, the NHK Trophy, recovering from a slow start to the Olympic season. Takahashi, only fourth in the season-opening Skate America Grand Prix, opened his long programme with a clean quadruple toeloop. But he under-rotated another quadruple attempt in his next element, giving up a planned combination double jump. Skating to a medley of Beatles tunes, he went on to nail two triple axels and four triple jumps, touching the ice once in landing. The 27-year-old Japanese skater, who lifted the Vancouver Olympics bronze medal and the world championship gold both in 2010, dazzled with steps and spins, hitting a maximum level-four in most of them.–AFP
