Islamabad - Islamabad police have arrested three youngsters for their alleged involvement in the murder of an officer of the World Bank and his wife.

According to details, unidentified persons on October 29 last stormed into the house of an officer of World Bank, Riaz Mehmud, in sector E-11/4 in the jurisdiction of Golra police station and strangulated the officer and his wife Zakia Riaz, who was a principal at IMCB G-11/1, to death in their bedroom. They took away a vehicle (VIGO, ICT-UU-259), gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones and other valuables from there.

Following the incident, IGP Tahir Alam Khan constituted a special team headed by SP (Saddar) Muhammad Ilyas to trace the killers at the earliest, said a police spokesman on Sunday. The team also included DSP Muhammad Hussain Lasi, SHO Golra police station Haq Nawaz Ranjha, Sub-Inspector Muneer Ahmed, and ASI Shah Nawaz which worked hard and succeeded to arrest three alleged assassins.

The nabbed persons have been identified as Aftab, Shah Nawaz and Yasir Khan who have confessed their crime and police recovered vehicle and other valuables from them. It was revealed during initial investigations that Shah Nawaz, who was employed in the WB officer’s house six days before the incident, and Yasir Khan, who was performing duties as guard in street 25 of E-11/4, along with Aftab Ahmed planned robbery in the house.  Talking to The Nation, the investigation officer said that the accused were arrested from Mera Abadi on Sunday as their location was traced through their mobile phones. He said a laptop, DVD, two mobiles and gold ornaments had also been recovered from the possession of the accused. Further investigation is under way, he added.
