KHAIRPUR - The 140th birthday of renowned scholar and Poet of the East Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal was celebrated by Department of Teacher Education, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) here on Thursday.
In this regard, a seminar was organised at the university premises. Department of Teacher Education Chairman Professor Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah was the keynote speaker at the event. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Iqbal was the greatest poet, politician and philosopher in the history of the sub-continent. “The thoughts of Iqbal were an inspiration for those spearheading the Pakistan Movement. This was the result of his poetry that finally we achieved independence,” Mallah noted. He further said, “Our education system must provide training in the Islamic concepts of freedom and equality in order to bring about that kind of "spiritual democracy which is the ultimate aim of Islam."
“The central theme of Iqbal's educational philosophy is to train students in such a way that they become true Muslims so that they could play their role in meeting the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah,” he added.
Syed Zahid Hussain Shah, Farzana Khoso, Firdous Bugti and Tahir Bhanbhro also talked on this occasion and paid rich tributes to Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
A large number of students attended the seminar.
